Principal’s Message

Dear Wilder Community,

As we begin the 2023-2024 school year, I am honored and excited to introduce myself as the new principal of Wilder Middle School. I come to Wilder with over a decade in education serving in the capacity of: principal, assistant principal, department chair, and teacher. Having had the privilege of working in various educational settings, I am deeply committed to providing a supportive and inclusive learning environment where each scholar can thrive and grow into his or her best self.

As we embark on this exciting journey together, my hope is that this school year will yield many successes particularly in the areas of growth mindset, academic achievement and community and family engagement. To that end, the theme of the school year is “The Wolverine P.A.C.T: Empowering Scholars with Pride, Accountability, Commitment, and Tenacity.” Over the next several weeks, I welcome dialogue between partners in the community to extend and embrace a positive and nurturing atmosphere for our scholars to excel academically and personally. As parents and guardians, you play a crucial role in your scholar’s educational journey. We value you; our doors are always open for discussions, feedback, and support.

To kickstart the school year, we have planned two orientations. Camp Wolverine is designed for our 6th graders on August 17 from 8:30-11:30 AM. Our 7th and 8th graders will have their orientation on August 17 from 5:00-6:30 PM. As an advanced notice, our Back to School Night is scheduled for September 12, 2023 from 6-8 PM. At these events, your scholar will get acquainted with his or her teachers, as well as the school’s facilities and resources. Your attendance is strongly encouraged; I would love to meet you. I urge you to stay connected through our school’s website, social media channels, and newsletters, where we will regularly share updates, achievements, and useful resources.

Let us work collaboratively to create an inspiring and safe learning environment for our scholars.  Together, we can make this year a remarkable one for their growth and success.

Thank you for entrusting your scholar’s education to Wilder Middle School. I am eagerly looking forward to a fantastic year ahead!

Yours in service,

Leah A. Segar, M.Ed
